Is John Cena A Future Legend?
What is it about John Cena that has made him such a topic of discussion amongst wrestling fans. His fans claim John Cena is the new Rock or Steve Austin but those that despise him feel he is at the top of the pile in WWE solely because he sells merchandise in another wise poor current roster. I believe both are right in their own way.
There is no doubt John Cena has been rushed to the top by WWE, he was moved up way ahead of his time and one of the reasons for his quick push is his power to sell merchandise. John Cena is currently one of only a few WWE superstars who are fantastic on the microphone that plus his great look and given WWE's leaning towards the story telling approach to wrestling it was easy to tell from the moment he entered WWE that John Cena was going to be a big star in the future, but that future came too soon.
Unlike some would have you believe John Cena is far from the worst wrestler of all time to hold the world title, he's certainly no worse than the likes of Psycho Sid or even Batista but the way John Cena was moved up the ladder so quickly and shoved in fans faces it has hit a nerve with many fans.
When guys like Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho where still around to be given a chance to be top dog or undercard performers such as Edge, Christian and Matt Hardy waiting for there chance they where all overlooked because of John Cena's personality despite his limited experience is it any wonder fans turned on him.
But John Cena wasn't to blame, WWE chose to put him at the top and and you wouldn't refuse a promotion would you. To John Cena's credit he has never given in to the fans who jeered him, he continued regardless and has finally started to change some fans opinion of him through improved in ring performances. There will always be a select few who refuse to except John Cena because of the way he's got to the top but if he continues to improve and can show he wasn't being carried by better performers in all his better matches then there can be little doubt he will one day go down as a legend.
John Cena is never going to be of the callibre of say a Shawn Michaels or Chris Benoit in terms of in ring performance but neither is Hulk Hogan and look at what he achieved. With WWE firmly behind John Cena you are going to be stuck with him for several years to come so it is pointless to keep judging him on how he got there instead we should judge him on his performance's now that he is top dog.
