Drawing People - Its Not Tough Really
Drawing people is the ultimate form the art of making drawing can take. The fun you can have from drawing people's figure can not be compared with anything else. But many aspiring artists fail to enjoy the real pleasure of drawing people. One of the main reason is new aspirants do not practice enough figure drawing. And often they approach figure drawing from the position of fear. To be proficient in people drawing you must accept that making good figure drawing is entirely possible and you your-self can do it.
Though good figure drawing is 80 percent regular-practice and rest 20 percent is technicalities, here are some pointers that will help you to study a figure and make good figure drawings. Do not concentrate on details at the outset--> Many beginners concentrate on the details of the human form the very beginning. This is not the correct way. First be aware of the over all form, draw that and then keep adding details. This way your work will be easy and streamlined.
Learn to draw clothes--> Most of the time your characters will be fully clothed so to be a good figure artist you need to concentrate on this area too. Observe people around you and the garments they put on. Note various details like how a three piece suite differs from a cotton shirt, how garments form crease at various postures of the body and such other things.
Keep in mind that hands and fingers are important but nothing to be afraid of--> Probably the area that new figure artists find most difficult is the-hands. True, drawing hands are not easy but keep in mind that making good drawing of hands is not impossible at all. Only little more practice is required. For practice you can take a glove as a model of hand or your idle hand can also play as a good model for practicing. Mind the position of ear when drawing profile--> Beginners often position the ear in wrong place. Normally they place the ear far too ahead near the face plane than it actually should be. Be careful of this common mistake. To avoid this error be a keen observer and draw what you see.
True, being a good figure artist involves some work. And that is true for every field of human endeavor. But the pleasure and excitement one can have from making a good drawing can not be found in most other fields. So put some work and enjoy the bound less pleasure of figure drawing.
